The Tulane Goldring Tennis Center, the long-awaited new home for Green Wave Tennis, as well as a venue that will be available to the New Orleans tennis community and pickleball enthusiasts, will host its opening match on Friday, February 20 at 1 p.m. as the Green Wave women's tennis team takes on UTSA. This match will be followed by a noon date with South Florida on Sunday, February 22. The Tulane men's tennis team will play its first match in the state-of-the-art venue on Thursday, March 5 at 1 p.m. against Florida Atlantic.
"Tulane offers a truly holistic educational experience that includes fielding the best teams both in the classroom and on the court," Tulane President Michael A. Fitts said. "The Goldring Tennis Center is another example of the ongoing support and countless opportunities Bill Goldring has provided Tulane students. This includes, among many others major components of Tulane, the buildings that house the  A. B. Freeman School of Business, The Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine, and now this truly spectacular Tennis Center."
Located at 200 Broadway, on Tulane's University Square campus, the facility includes six NCAA regulation tennis courts and four pickleball courts.
"This a great moment for the Green Wave Tennis teams and the entire New Orleans community," said Patrick Norton, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Tulane. "This project begins a new chapter for our student-athletes, Green Wave fans and all of our neighbors who love tennis and Tulane."Â
The tennis courts will have planned hours for use by the Tulane teams throughout their competitive seasons, with additional hours available for community use later this summer. The pickleball courts will also have daily hours of operation for student and community use later this spring. Details on the reservation process for both facilities will be made available soon.
"We are thrilled to have both Tulane tennis teams in action at the Goldring Tennis Center," said Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair David Harris. "This facility will have a lasting impact on our teams and our community. For our athletes, it provides a first-class environment to train and compete. For our community members, it offers a welcoming space to enjoy the sport, stay active, and connect with one another."
The Goldring Tennis Center is located on the riverside of the site, abutting Carver Playground, while the four pickleball courts are parallel to Leake Avenue. The pickleball courts are positioned away from residential areas and with buildings as a buffer to alleviate potential noise issues.
"Growing up in New Orleans, I always dreamed of an on-campus, first-class tennis facility," said senior tennis player Micah Pierce. "It's incredible to see it come to life here at Tulane, and I'm so proud to be part of this moment."Â
The tennis courts have permanent stands for fans to enjoy watching Green Wave matches. Individual scoreboards can be found on each court, with a larger facility-wide scoreboard displaying the match scores for fans. The Goldring Tennis Center also has ample off-street parking available at University Square for spectators and participants.
"This new facility is a game changer for Tulane tennis," said junior tennis player Daniel Phillips. "My teammates and I are excited to play on campus in front of our fans and are eager to compete and bring the Green Wave energy."
Further amenities will be added to the complex later this spring and summer. Updates on the completion of those amenities, as well as the facility schedule, will be available on social media and on TulaneGreenWave.com. Officials are planning a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at a later date.Â
