
Tulane Football Welcomes Freshmen to Campus

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University football team officially opened its 2001 season with the arrival of its freshmen class on Thursday afternoon.
The Green Wave freshmen reported to the Wilson Center for the opening of training camp. After various administrative meetings, physicals and dinner, the Green Wave newcomers will board a bus to Hammond, La., and Southeastern Louisiana University where the team will conduct its preseason practices.
"We are very excited about our incoming freshmen," head coach Chris Scelfo said. "The quality and quantity of this class should benefit our team immediately."
The Tulane varsity reports on Sunday afternoon, checking in at the Wilson Center as well, before bussing to Hammond to join the freshmen.
The Wave will conduct two-a-day practices through much of the preseason training, while also holding periodic intra-squad scrimmages at SLU's Strawberry Stadium.
Tulane opens its 2001 season Aug. 25 when it travels to Provo, Utah, to battle BYU in the BCA Classic. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. (Central).
