Green Wave Cross Country Teams Win

LAFAYETTE, La. - Tulane University won both the men's and women's titles at the Popeye's Ragin' Cajun Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Wave matched its opening week effort by again having both individual winners. Sophomore Eva Lustigova (Liberec, Czech Republic) covered the three-mile course in 18:19 for the women, while senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) won the men's race in 121:43.
Tulane's men took the top three places in the race to finish with 28 points. Nicholls State was second with 78 points. UL-Lafayette took third with 79 points, followed by Northwestern State (85 points), Lamar (120), Southern (167), Loyola (175), UNO (192) and Southeastern Louisiana (195).
On the women's side, Tulane had 42 points to edge second-place UL-Lafayette (51 points). UNO collected a third place finish with 114 points, while Loyola (129), Northwestern State (140), Lamar (142), Southern (165), Southeastern (175) and Nicholls (215) rounded out the field.
Following Kandie's winning time for the Wave, were junior Anthony Lagat (Eldama-Ravine, Kenya) and senior Meshack Mulupi (Kilimambogo, Kenya), who earned second and third place, respectively.
After Lustigova's winning time, the Wave women were paced by senior Katrina Gemmell (Palmerston North, New Zealand), who finished in third place, and Lyndie Galka (Fort Stewart, Ga.), who notched a fifth-place effort.
Tulane returns to action next Saturday Sept. 29 at the Auburn Invitational.
