One of three seniors on the Green Wave women's tennis team, Joyce Bergman is one of the players head coach David Schumacher is counting on to lead the way in 2001-02. And Bergman did not disappoint in the season-opening match this weekend at Goldring Stadium when she defeated ULM's Kelly Bucewicz in the opening round of the Green Wave Classic. A second-team All-C-USA choice last year, Bergman won nine of her final 12 singles matches last season, including an undefeated mark in the Conference USA Tournament to help Tulane to its first-ever C-USA Championship. She also helped Tulane earn its first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M. Bergman also teams with Julie Morris in No. 1 doubles play. A standout in the classroom as well, Bergman has earned C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition in each of the past two years.
