NEW ORLEANS - Record-setting Tulane seniors Patrick Ramsey and Casey Roussel will represent Tulane in the 2002 Senior Bowl as the Mobile, Ala.-based all-star game released its complete rosters Monday. The 53rd annual game will be played Saturday, Jan. 26 at Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Ramsey, who set 30 Tulane passing and total offense during his three years as a starter for the Green Wave, joins LSU's Rohan Davey and Fresno State's David Carr as quarterbacks for the South squad, which will be coached by Arizona Cardinals' Head Coach Dave McGinnis and his staff. Roussel, Tulane's career leader in punting average with a 43.8 mark, will handle all punting chores for the South squad.
The selection of Ramsey and Roussel to the 2002 game brings to 38 the number of Tulane players who have participated in the Senior Bowl, including five Wave players in the last three years. Bernard Robertson, a fifth-round draft choice of the Chicago Bears who served as a back-up on the Bears' offensive line in 2001, represented Tulane in last year's Senior Bowl. Current Tulane pros Jerald Sowell (1997) and Shaun King (1999) also played in the game following their respective senior seasons.
In 11 games in 2001, Ramsey completed 256-of-448 passes for 2,935 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Ruston, La. native threw at least one touchdown pass in a school-record 31 straight games dating back to his sophomore season. Ramsey also became the first Tulane player to be named a National College Scholar-Athlete by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Paulina, La.'s Roussel punted 64 times for 2,764 yards for a 43.2-yard average in 2001 and had 11 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He had eight punts of 50 yards or more.
