No. 31 Green Wave Men's Tennis Defeats Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - Tulane University improved to a perfect 3-0 with a 5-2 victory over No. 47 Tulsa University on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Tulane, ranked No. 31 in the nation, handed the Golden Hurricane its first loss of the year, dropping it to 6-1 overall.
The Green Wave opened play strong by taking the doubles point. The nationally-ranked tandem of sophomore Michael Kogan (Kfar-Saba, Israel) and junior Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) won 8-4 at top flight doubles. Kogan and Romero are ranked No. 22 in the nation, while their opponents Dane McGregor and Shri Sudhakara hold the No. 32 ranking in doubles play.
Junior Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) and sophomore Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland) improved to 3-0 with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 and sophomore Goran Vasiljevic (Varmo, Switzerland) and junior Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) won 8-7 at No. 3 doubles.
Kogan, ranked No. 4 in the nation in singles play, picked up a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while Romero, ranked No. 33, swept the No. 72-ranked McGregor, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Lievano and Westerberg won their matches at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively to wrap up the scoring for the Wave.
Tulane returns to action on Feb. 5, playing at Arkansas.
