The annual New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club - Tulane Calcutta Fundraising Tournament is scheduled for November 22 and 23. The Calcutta party with open bar and food for members will be Friday evening, with an exhibition by Tulane players beginning at 6:00 pm and the auction for teams begins at 7:00.
"Buy a friend." The highest bidders own the rights to their team and owners of the winning teams select from valuable prizes in order of their team's place finish. On Saturday the tournament will feature morning and afternoon draws. Eight members are paired with Tulane men and another eight members are paired with Tulane women for 3 pro set matches in both the morning and afternoon draws.
A Hidden Dual at Texas A&M
The team will compete November 1-3 at Texas A&M in a "hidden dual" tournament against Washington State, TCU and Texas A&M. The "hidden dual" round robin format pairs the teams in singles and doubles competition similar to a traditional dual match format where 1 plays 1, #2 plays #2, etc. However, because no team scoring is kept, the matches count only for individual records and the "tournament" uses only one of the twenty-five playing dates allotted by NCAA rules. Julie Smekodub will not be competing at this event.
