FORT WORTH, Texas (AP)- Lonta Hobbs rushed ran 124 yards, and Texas Christian stopped Tulane at the Horned Frogs' 15-yard line with 1:26 left to preserve their 17-10 victory Saturday.
TCU (8-1, 5-1 Conference USA) has won eight in a row, its longest streak since it won 12 straight from 1999 to 2000. The Frogs hold a half-game advantage over Southern Mississippi for the conference lead.
Tulane (6-4, 3-3) had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Hobbs, who didn't play in TCU's first four games, became the first TCU freshman with three 100-yard rushing games.
The Horned Frogs didn't score an offensive touchdown for the first time this season but got help from their defense, which held the Green Wave to 115 yards.
Tulane had scored 173 points over its past four games and was averaging more than 30 points per game.
The Green Wave had crept within 17-10 when Derrick Joseph connected with Mewelde Moore on a 26-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter.
After taking over at its own 38-yard line with 3:00 left in the game, Tulane drove to the TCU 15-yard line with 1:26 remaining.
But Joseph was sacked by TCU's Robert Pollard and was then forced into three consecutive incompletions. The Horned Frogs took over on downs with 1:08 left and ran out the clock.
TCU built on its 9-3 halftime lead when Zack Moore blocked Seth Marler's punt, which Cody McCarty recovered in the end zone with 1:56 left in the third quarter.
Moore became Tulane's leader in all-purpose yards. He had 66 yards receiving and 15 yards rushing, pushing his all-purpose total to 4,681.
Joseph completed 8 of 16 passes for 119 yards after he replaced starter J.P. Losman in the third quarter. Losman completed 8 of 29 passes for 49 yards and an interception.
TCU's Sean Stilley started at quarterback for the first time since separating his right shoulder Sept. 21. He was 11-of-26 for 96 yards and an interception.
Tye Gunn, who started the last four games for the Horned Frogs, is out for the season with a knee injury.
