NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University won the first match of a men's tennis doubleheader with a 7-0 white-washing of Wichita State on Saturday morning at Goldring Tennis Stadium. The Green Wave, ranked No. 39 in the nation, battles crosstown rival University of New Orleans on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m.
Tulane (4-1) swept the doubles matches to earn the first point, and then went on for a clean sweep in singles, winning at all six flights.
At No. 1 doubles, Tulane's No. 22 ranked tandem of sophomore Michael Kogan (Kfar-Saba, Israel) and junior Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) picked up an 8-4 victory over the Shockers' Mark Sewell and Jaime Rodriguez.
Romero, playing his first match this year at No. 1 singles, cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sewell. Romero is ranked No. 33 in the nation. Kogan, ranked No. 4 in the country, also remained perfect on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win at second flight singles.
