MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After losing to No. 8 Illinois on Friday, Tulane University closed action at the Blue-Gray Collegiate Men's Tennis Classic with a 4-2 defeat of No. 31 South Alabama on Saturday at Lagoon Park.
Tulane, ranked No. 35 in the nation, improves to 11-3 on the year. It is the fifth win in the last six matches for Tulane and the sixth win this year over a ranked opponent.
The Green Wave fell behind early, losing the doubles point, but recovered with four victories in singles action.
Tulane's doubles tandem of sophomore Michael Kogan (Kfar-Saba, Israel) and junior Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico), ranked No. 13 in the nation, picked up a win at top flight doubles, but the Wave fell at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles action, Kogan, sophomore Hannu Piirnoinen (Tampere, Finland) and junior Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) all picked up wins, but it was Romero's three-set triumph at the second flight which clinched the match win for the Green Wave.
Tulane returns to action on March 26, playing at Mississippi.
