One of the Green Wave's top middle distance runners, senior Katrina Gemmell hopes to end her collegiate career the same way she concluded the 2001 outdoor season - with another Conference USA championship. After winning the 1,500 meter title at last year's C-USA meet, Gemmell earned the individual championship in the 1,500 last week at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet in Baton Rouge. This past fall, she earned all-district, all-conference and All-Louisiana honors in cross country. At the NCAA South Central Championship, whe was the Green Wave's lone runner and placed 19th with a time of 21:43. At the C-USA meet, Gemmell was Tulane's top finisher at ninth place in 20:27.7. During the 2001 Indoor season, Gemmell won the C-USA mile championhip and had a personal record 4:54.15 at the Canon Classic. As a freshman, she earned C-USA Freshman of the Year honors in both indoor and outdoor track.
