Green Wave Women Fall to Oregon in Tennis Action

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Oregon women's tennis team won four straight-set matches in singles play to claim a 4-3 win over the Tulane women's tennis team at the Goldring Tennis Center on Sunday.
With the loss, Tulane falls to 11-11 overall, while Oregon improves to 12-9 overall.
The Green Wave took an early 1-0 lead by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, only to see the Ducks post wins in the bottom four singles spots to claim the dual match victory.
The Tulane team of Julie Morris and Ana Saaibi posted an 8-3 win over the Oregon duo of Monika Gieczys and Daria Panova at No. 2 doubles, while Anneli Axsater and Lucy Wood were 8-4 winners over UO's Ester Bak and Janice Nyland at No. 3 doubles.
The Wave also got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but it was not enough. Julie Morris cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Panova at No. 1 singles, while Joyce Bergman was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victor over Gieczys at the No. 2 spot.
Nyland took the match on Court 3 with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Saaibi, while Vickie Gunnarsson posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Tulane's Maiko Cook at No. 4 singles. Lucy Wood dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Davina Mendibury at No. 5 singles, and Oregon's Courtney Nagle posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Axsater at the No. 6 spot.
The Green Wave return to action on Thursday, April 18, at the Conference USA Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
