Jurlina Breaks School Discus Record Again

NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the third time this year, Tulane University Jelena Jurlina (Zadar, Croatia) broke the school record in the discus. The Green Wave freshman posted a distance of 49.50 meters (162-05) to win her event during day one action at the 2002 Tulane Invitational.
Jelena's discus throw was just five centimeters from an NCAA Provisional qualifying distance. Her previous best had been 49.42 meters (162-02) at the LSU Alumni Gold meet on March 16.
Green Wave freshman Moji Alade (Bakersfield, Calif.) also had a strong throw in the discus, matching her personal best with a throw of 41.94 meters to take fourth place.
Other top efforts by the Green Wave came from freshman Camilla Hatlen in the long jump, she took fifth place with a leap of 17-00.75. On the men's side, sophomore Josh Johnson (Cola, S.C.) finished in sixth place in the long jump at 7.30 meters (22-03.5).
Action continues on Saturday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events opening at 12:30 p.m.
