Tulane Women Snags Sixth Place at C-USA Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) closed his career with style, tallying 26 points at the Conference USA Men's Outdoor Track Championships which completed on Saturday. The Green Wave women finished in sixth place overall, while Tulane's men took ninth.
Houston won the C-USA Women's Championship with 144 points, while Marquette was second with 119 and South Florida third with 85.5. Tulane tallied 61 points to take sixth place. The Wave was led by freshman Helmi Leppanen (Kerava, Finland), who scored 20 points.
On the men's side, Tulane tallied 47 points to take ninth place. TCU won the championship in its first year in the league with 132.5 points. Cincinnati earned second place with 123 points, while Houston was third with 97.50.
Kandie won the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday and came back Saturday to win the 1,500-meter run and take third in the 5,000 meters. Leppanen won the javelin and took fourth in the heptathlon and fifth in the shot put.
Senior Asha James (Pickering, Ontario), who had been hampered by injuries this year, stepped up in the 200-meter finals, finishing second with a school record time of 23.55 seconds, an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time. Sophomore Carlyne Pradieu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned four points with a fifth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.73.
For the men, freshman Phillip Aagaard (Linkoping, Sweden) earned third place and six points in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.38. Freshman Erik Emilsson (Bjarred, Sweden) was fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:53.41 for five points. Freshman Eric Hambidge (Mystic, Conn.) threw the javelin 172-01 to finish in fifth place for four points.
