ATLANTA, Ga. - Tulane University had three individuals in action at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday at a "last-chance" meet. The meet is an event which features collegiate competitors hoping to improve on the marks in order to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Jelena Jurlina (Zadar, Croatia) had a solid throw in the javelin, finishing eighth overall with a personal-best distance of 149-07. However, the distance narrowly missed the provisional qualifying standard. Classmate Helmi Lepanen (Kerava, Finland) threw the javelin 143-09 for 10th place. She had already recorded a provisional qualifying distance. Jurlina also had a throw of 157-06 in the discus to take 12th place in the meet; that distance was below her personal best.
On the men's side, freshman Joakim Daun (Klintehamn, Sweden) ran the 800 meters in 1:54.68, which did not improve on his personal best.
The NCAA Outdoor Track Championships will be hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge from May 29 to June 1.
