NEW ORLEANS, La. - Season tickets for the 2002 Tulane University volleyball season remain on sale and are exceeding the record-setting numbers of 2001, Tulane Ticket Director Tim Zenner announced Tuesday.
With nearly 75 percent of all season tickets from a year ago already renewed, Tulane head coach Betsy Becker feels that record crowds in Fogelman Arena will have an opportunity to see her Green Wave squad continue to improve and make a run at the Conference USA Championship.
"Home court advantage is such a huge thing in college athletics," Becker said. "We've been places where we call a timeout and can't really hear because the crowd is so loud. We've had good crowds at home in recent years, especially last season, and we hope to continue that trend in 2002.
"As a student-athlete, you always want to perform well at home. Having a big crowd that really gets into the game can help your performance. We've been working really hard all offseason, and hope to once again have a strong support base at all of our home matches."
Season-ticket packages for the 2002 volleyball season are $65 for adults and $45 for youth. Payment can be made via mail to the Tulane Ticket Office at Campus Box 5100, Tulane University Station, New Orleans, LA 70118-5698, or in person at the Tulane Ticket Office located in the James W. Wilson Jr. Center on Ben Weiner Drive. Season tickets can also be purchased by phone at (504) 861-WAVE. The Tulane Ticket Office accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
The Green Wave's home slate for 2002 features a pair of tournaments - the NOKIA Sugar Bowl Classic which features state foes LSU, UNO and Louisiana Tech on Sept. 6-7, and the Kathy Trosclair Memorial Tournament against Saint Louis and Centenary on Sept. 28.
Tulane opens its 14-match home season on Sept. 3 with a doubleheader vs. Prairie View and Jackson State. After hosting the NOKIA Sugar Bowl Classic and the Kathy Trosclair Memorial Tournament, the Green Wave also play host to South Florida (Oct. 11), UAB (Oct. 12), Centenary (Oct. 15), Cincinnati (Oct. 25), Louisville (Oct. 26), Southern Miss (Nov. 9) and Memphis (Nov. 15) in Fogelman Arena.
The Green Wave return 11 letterwinners and five starters from last year's team, including second-team All-Conference USA honorees Britney Hurst and Anastasia Kenon. In addition to returning starters Katie Case, Karlyn Daly and Deva Fowler, Tulane also added a two-year collegiate letterwinner in UMass transfer Nitia Small and local high school standout Kelli Dickson of Sacred Heart Academy.
