MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tulane University junior Dmitiry Koch (Bueckeberg, Germany) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Region III Championship at the Racquet Club of Memphis. He will play Vanderbilt's Zach Dailey on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Koch, who holds the No. 90 ranking in the nation, opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over LSU's Cory Ross on Friday. He followed that by upending UAB's Andre Maier, 6-7, 7-5, 6-1. In the round of 16, Koch avenged a loss from earlier this fall to Auburn's Gabor Zoltan Pelva, defeating the 49th-ranked Tiger, 6-2, 6-4.
Koch and freshman David Goulet (Longeuil, Quebec) teamed up for one victory in doubles play, as the Green Wave pair defeated Ryan Sherry and Stefan Tell from Florida, 8-4, in the round of 64. However, the Wave pair fell, 9-7, to James Spence and Lee Walker from Memphis late on Saturday.
Other Tulane singles victories in the main draw of the tourney came from senior Maxime Lacroix (Auch, France) and Goulet. Lacroix topped Gabriel Strangberg from UCF, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 128 before falling to 19th Paul Ciorascu from Ole Miss. Goulet had an opening round win over Trey Johnson from Florida before falling to Middle Tennessee State's Kirk Jackson.
In qualifying action, sophomore Patrizio Maucci (Neuilly, France) defeated Matt Armstrong from Mississippi State, but lost to Jacksonville's Martin Hehensteigerd.
