FORT WORTH, Texas - - TCU scored a goal in each half to take over first place in Conference USA with a 2-0 win over the Tulane women's soccer team at the TCU Soccer Field on Sunday.
Tulane lost its second straight contest to fall to 9-5-1 overall and 5-3-0 in league action. TCU posted its second consecutive shutout to improve to 8-6-1 overall and is now 6-1-0 in Conference USA play.
TCU got on the board in the 10th minute with a goal from Jessi Moore. Tulane senior Asia Simons nearly had an equalizer for the Green Wave, but her free kick from just outside the penalty area was well saved by the TCU goalkeeper.
After taking the 1-0 lead into the break, TCU added a second goal in the second half with a strike from Cara Toulouse. Simons again had the best chance for the Wave in the second stanza with a free kick, but her effort was cleared by a TCU defender.
TCU had a 17-10 edge in shots, with Frog goalkeeper Katie Buchanan making three saves.
Tulane returns to action on Friday, Oct. 24, as the Green Wave travel to face William Carey College.
