NEW ORLEANS, La. - -
The Tulane doubles team of David Goulet and Patrizio Maucci won a pair of matches to advance to the semifinals of the Beau Holton Memorial Men's Tennis Tournament at Goldring Stadium on Saturday.
The duo opened the day with a solid 8-0 thumping over the Southern Miss team of Lux and Rea to reach the quarterfinals. The Wave tandem had a little more trouble with the Middle Tennessee State team of Pollack and Sitaram, finding themselves down 8-7. However, the Tulane team rallied to tie the match at 8-8 before claiming the match in the tie-break frame.
Tulane was not as fortunate in singles action, however, as both Goulet and Hannu Piiroinen lost their quarterfinal matches. Goulet dropped a hard-fought 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 decision to Southern Miss' David Canudas, while Piiroinen fell 6-4, 7-5 to LSU's Cory Ross. Both Canudas and Ross would advance to Sunday's singles final.
In consolation action, Tulane's Max Lacroix topped Middle Tennessee's Kirk Jackson, 7-6, 6-1.
Action continues at the Beau Holton Memorial on Sunday with the singles final and the semifinals and finals in doubles.
