Green Wave Women's Tennis Classic Wraps Up At Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane's Darya Ivanov and Nancy Kockott won the doubles title at the Green Wave Women's Tennis Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Complex. The tournament had three separate singles events with two of those won by UNO standouts Michaela Fogelberg and Maren Arnold. The other singles draw was a round-robin event between Tulane and UNO, with Tulane winning nine of the 10 matches.
The "White" draw singles, which was the round-robin event, wrapped up on Sunday. Tulane's Erica Valdes and Nancy Kockott each had Sunday victories, while the last completed match lasted nearly three and a half hours as UNO's Inge Veerman held on for a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 triumph over Tulane's Darya Ivanov. Valdes, Kockott and Ana Maria Saaibi each went undefeated in three weekend matches for the Wave.
"This weekend showed that our team is very healthy and competitive," Tulane coach David Schumacher said. "And we also proved that the level of tennis in the city of New Orleans is oustanding."
UNO's Fogelberg won the "Blue" draw singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tiffany Scott from Xavier.
The "Green" draw singles title was captured by Arnold from UNO, who defeated Veronika Ramirez from Nicholls State, 6-1, 6-0.
In the doubles main draw, Tulane's duo of Ivanov and Kockott used an 8-3 decision in the championship match to win the title over Lucie Mazinova and Patricia Osedumme from UNO.
