NEW ORLEANS -No. 2 Louisville defeated 10th-seeded TCU, 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-20) in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at Fogelman Arena. The Cardinals (21-4) advance to the semifinals where they will play the winner of the Marquette-Southern Miss match. TCU falls to 20-13 on the season, marking the best record in school history.
"It is always good to get that first match under your belt because the layoff can hurt you and the other team has their tournament jitters under control, " said head coach Leonid Yelin, "Plus we have a lot of respect for Dominika Swabo and TCU. There is no looking forward to the championship game when there are so many teams here who are playing well and determined to beat us on the road to get to the final game."
Louisville was led by Lena Ustymenko and Sonja Percan. Ustymenko fired away 15 kills and only five errors on 30 attempts for a .333 attack percentage. Percan recorded her 11th double-double performance of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs. As a team, the Cardinals, who lead the league in attack percentage, hit .327 for the match.
TCU's Emilly Allen notched nine kills for a .474 attack percentage, while Dominika Swabo and Anna Vaughn followed with eight kills apiece.
Louisville will be vying for its sixth consecutive C-USA final game appearance when it faces the winner of the USM-Marquette match in Saturday's semifinal. The Cardinals lead the league with six championship final appearances.
