SEATTLE, Wash. - In a rematch of a first-round pairing from last year's NCAA Tournament, Tulane University fell once again to the University of Washington in men's tennis action on Sunday evening at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on the University of Washington campus.
The undefeated Hsukies (8-0) had also topped the Green Wave in the NCAAs last year in Palo Alto. Washington is currently ranked No. 12, while Tulane (3-2) holds the No. 27 ranking in the country.
Despite losing the doubles point, Tulane had another big win in pairs play as Michael Kogan and Victor Romero teamed up to stop the 18th-ranked duo of Ari Strasberg and Alex Vlaski at No. 1 doubles. Kogan and Romero are ranked No. 29, but they had defeated San Diego State's sixth-ranked duo on Saturday.
Kogan, ranked No. 32 in the nation, and sophomore Dmitriy Koch were the lone winners for the Wave in singles action. Kogan had an impressive comeback victory over the fifth-ranked Vlaski, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Koch had a 7-6, 7-6 win over Strasberg at No. 3.
Tulane returns to action on Sunday, hosting No. 45 Tulsa at Goldring Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
