FORT WORTH, Texas - - The Tulane women's tennis team posted four singles wins en route to a 5-2 win over Conference USA rival TCU at the Friedman Tennis Center on Friday.
With the win, Tulane improves to 9-1 overall, while TCU drops to 4-3. The Green Wave are currently ranked 34th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while TCU is listed 30th.
Tulane took an early 1-0 lead by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to claim the opening doubles point. The Wave duo of Julie Smekodub and Jenny Kuhn, ranked sixth by the ITA, posted an 8-4 win over Aburto and Perez at the No. 1 spot. At No. 3 doubles, the Tulane team of Erika Valdes and Ana Maria Saaibi were 8-4 winners over Andrade and Jaklin.
In singles play, Kuhn, ranked 50th, posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Saber Pierce at the No. 2 spot. Erika Valdes, ranked 78th for Tulane, was a 6-3, 6-1 winnver over Karla Mancinas at the No. 4 position. Saaibi and Nancy Kockott posted identical 6-2, 6-4 wins at the 5 and 6 spots, respectively, with Saaibi topping Jaklin and Kockott topping Gloriann Lopez.
