NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's tennis team will close out the regular season on Tuesday, as the Green Wave play host to cross-town rival UNO at the Goldring Tennis Complex.
The match, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., will mark the final home appearances for Green Wave seniors Julie Morris and Lucy Wood. Tulane enters the contest with an 18-4 overall record and captured its second Conference USA title in the last three years last weekend. The Wave are currently ranked 29th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. UNO currently has a 16-3 overall record and is 7-0 against Louisiana opponents this year. Last season, UNO posted a 5-2 win over Tulane.
"Anytime you play an in-state rival, it is going to be a tough match," Tulane head coach David Schumacher said. "Add in the fact that UNO is our cross-town rival and you get what should be a very exciting match. We are also going to say farewell to seniors Julie Morris and Lucy Wood before the match. They have both given so much to the program over the last few years. Hopefully we can send them out with a win on Tuesday."
To celebrate Senior Night and the final match of the 2002 regular season, the tennis team will host a free bar-b-que and crawfish boil for all fans in attendance. Fans will be treated to complimentary crawfish, hot dogs and hamburgers and will have the opportunity to purchase beer and soda. This event will be a great kickoff to a full night of Green Wave events as the baseball team plays host to Nicholls State later that evening.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early at the match, with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m., and congratulate the team, which captured the 2003 Conference USA Tournament Championship last week and will make its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance in May.
