NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane football continued its preseason workouts on Tuesday, with a series of of 11 on 11 drills that lasted nearly the entire practice at the Westfeldt Facility on the Tulane campus.
The Green Wave used the entire depth chart, with reserve quarterbacks Nick Cannon and Richard Irvin seeing the majority of time under center.
James Dunn caught a long pass over cornerback Winfred Brown to set up a touchdown for the offense, only to see Brown respond with a long interception return on the first play of the next offensive series. Irvin also directed the offense to a score, hitting Chris Bush in the back of the endzone.
"We really needed to do some eleven on eleven work today," Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo said. "We have been unfortunate with our injuries, so we really used it to get a look at lot of different players today. We were able to get a lot of guys on tape so we can have a look at them and help fill out the depth chart."
The team worked situational drills up and down the field, focusing on plays inside the 20-yard line at the end of practice. The Wave also brought in their field goal and punting units when needed and concluded the nearly 120-minute long practice with conditioning drills.
"I thought both Nick and Richard reacted well today," Scelfo said. "Our pass rush is still something we are working on. We were able to get some situational subs in to get a feel for things in a game-type environment."
Tulane opens the regular season on Labor Day, Sept. 1, when they play host to Conference USA foe TCU before a nationally-televised audience (ESPN) at 7 p.m. in the Louisiana Superdome.
