Wave Men's Tennis Opens Fall Campaign

AUBURN, Ala. - Tulane had a strong opening day for its men's tennis team on Friday, picking up a pair of singles win and two doubles victories as five individuals competed at the Auburn Invitational.
Green Wave junior Dmitriy Koch (Bueckeburg, Germany), ranked No. 90 in the nation cruised to a straight-set victory over Auburn's Nick Lane, 6-2, 6-2. In addition, senior Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland) posted a three-set victory, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 over UAB's Andre Maier.
In doubles action, Koch and freshman David Goulet (Longueuil, Quebec) posted an 8-6 triumph over Rodrigo Minozzo and Lane from Auburn. The other doubles win for Tulane saw Piiroinen and sophomore Patrizio Maucci (Neuilly, France) stop UAB's Ruben Zrihen and Sanzaruz Zaman, 9-8.
The two newcomers for the Green Wave, Goulet and senior transfer Maxime Lacroix both suffered losses in their debuts. Goulet had a tough task as he was matched against the No. 49 ranked player in the nation, Auburn's Zoltan Pelva, falling 6-1, 6-1. Lacroix was defeated 4-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Action in the Auburn Invitational continues on Saturday.
