Tulane Women Win LSU Cross Country Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. - For the fourth straight week, a total team effort led the Tulane University women's cross country team to a win, as the Green Wave cruised to victory at the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park. The Green Wave men took fourth place in the event.
Freshman sensation Bessie Hatch (Ojai, Calif.) placed second for the Green Wave women, recording a time of 22:42.50 on the six-kilometer course. Hatch has won two races and come in second twice thus far in her collegiate career for the Green Wave.
The Wave women tallied 43 points while placing six runners in the top 17 in the 13-team event. McNeese State earned second place with 75 points, while LSU was third with 95 points. UNO (132) and South Alabama (145) rounded out the top five, while UL-Lafayette (154), Southeastern La. (186), Nicholls State (219), West Florida (221), Loyola (279), UL-Monroe (279), Xavier (306) closed out the field.
On the men's side, the Green Wave was led by junior Philip Aagaard (Linkoping, Sweden), the top Tulane men's finisher for the fourth week in a row. He covered the eight-kilometer course in 27:00.50 to finish ninth overall.
Tulane's men finished with 118 points to finish fourth in the 12-team field. LSU (62 points), Louisiana Tech (79) and McNeese State (93) held off Tulane for the top three slots. Closing out the field were UL-Lafayette (143 points), UL-Monroe (153), Southeastern La. (173), South Alabama (191), Xavier (240), UNO (255), Nicholls State (269) and Alcorn State (324).
In addition to Hatch, under-rated sophomore Lisa Green (Marietta, Ga.) had another strong race for the Wave women, finishing fourth with a time of 22:43.50. Green has finished second twice this year to go with a third and today's fourth-place effort.
Sophomore Mandy Hopper (Charlotte, N.C.) had an eighth-place finish, followed by seniors Eva Lustigova (Liberec, Czech Republic) and Carlyne Pradieu (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who closed out the scoring for the Tulane women with 14th and 15th-place finishes, respectively.
In addition to Aagaard on the men's side, senior Philip Romero (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished 17th overall in the 91-runner field with a time of 27:15.40. Senior Ryan Gallagher (New Orleans, La.) took 26th place at 27:30.70. Rounding out the men's scorers for the Wave were freshman Dave Posnick (Nashua, N.H.) and senior Luke Hooper (Norman, Okla.), who placed 35th and 40th, respectively.
Tulane returns to action in two weeks at the Auburn Invitation on Friday, Oct. 10.
