NEW ORLEANS, La. - 13-2...That has a nice ring to it, doesn't it. It's also the best start of any Tulane volleyball team since 1987. There are so many good things to say about our team and the way we have been playing. But you know what? None of it matters. We start conference this weekend and so now our record is back to 0-0.
Don't get me wrong, having 13 wins feels great. I love that our team walks into a gym with an aura of confidence and determination. I love the fact that we play our best in loud gyms and close games. But the most important thing on our minds is not those games we've already won. Now, we are looking ahead and focusing on the tough opponents we will face in Conference USA. One of our goals is to be the best team in our conference, and we finally will get the chance to start proving that.
We open conference play against TCU this Friday night at 7 p.m. in Fogelman Arena. Our strength coach, Gavin Ozaki, gave us good advice yesterday when he said that we have to play TCU as if they are the best team in the conference. All of the two-a-days, running, practices, and tournaments have only been preparation for this point in our season. So now we will take one game at a time. Hopefully, in eight weeks, all the hard work will pay off and we will have that winning banner to hang up in Fogelman Arena.
