Baseball Recruiting Class Ranked Fifth By Collegiate Baseball

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University baseball team's 13 newcomers has been ranked fifth in the nation in Collegiate Baseball's 22nd annual rundown of NCAA Division I baseball recruiting classes.
The Green Wave signing class of 2004 is highlighted by a pair of high school draft pick in infielder Brad Emaus (18th round, Atlanta Braves) and pitcher/infielder Sean Morgan (25th round, Milwaukee Brewers), a first-team High School All-American in outfielder Warren McFadden, and a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference player and 2003 All-American in pitcher/infielder Micah Owings.
"This is a credit to (associate head coach/recruiting coordinator) Mark Kingston for his hard work and diligence," Tulane head coach Rick Jones said. "It's a subjective ranking, but what the ranking tells us is that we have some very good prospects."
McFadden earned All-America recognition from Baseball America after hitting .555 with 11 home runs, 50 RBI and 28 stolen bases as a senior at Nova High School in Plantation, Fla. McFadden and Emaus were both chosen to play in the 2003 AFLAC All-American Classic, and Morgan's two-way play earned him a spot on the 2004 first-team 5A all-state team by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Owings, who won 18 games and hit 30 home runs in two seasons at Georgia Tech, is one of three transfers to join the Green Wave for the 2005 season, joining fellow Division I transfer Devin Barnett (UMass) and junior college outfielder Matt Riser (Pearl River CC).
Rounding out the Tulane recruiting class are pitchers Peter Connick (New Orleans, La./Jesuit HS), Jonathan Garrett (Mandeville, La./St. Paul's School), Stephen Porlier (Sugar Land, Texas/Elkins HS) and Greg Young (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Harvard-West Lake School), catcher Marc Robèrt (Metairie, La./Jesuit HS), infielder Cat Everett (Houston, Texas/Lamar HS), and outfielder Scott Powell (New Orleans, La./Newman HS).
Tulane is one of four current Conference USA schools to rank among the Top 40 recruiting classes by Collegiate Baseball. TCU is the second-highest ranked league team at No. 26, followed by East Carolina at No. 29 and Houston at No. 38. In addition, future C-USA member Rice ranked 13th.
