Baseball Earns 12-4 Sunday Victory Over FAU

BOCA RATON, FL – The Tulane baseball team (21-20, 7-8 American) scored early and added on late in taking a 12-4 victory over Florida Atlantic University (19-20, 6-9 American) on Sunday afternoon, April 19, at FAU Baseball Stadium. The program scored the first five runs of the game in the first four innings and then exploded for six runs in the ninth to earn the victory over the Owls to take the third game of the series.
Blaise Wilcenski (2-2) earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed an unearned run and struck out two with three hits allowed. J.D. Rodriguez started for the Green Wave and went four innings with seven hits and a run allowed with two strikeouts. Sam Larson allowed two runs (one earned) in his 0.2 of an inning. He walked a pair and threw a wild pitch plus saw two defensive errors committed behind him. Tom Vincent was able to get a double play to get out of a sticky bases loaded situation in the bottom of the eighth inning and then finished the game with a scoreless ninth. On the day, he threw 1.2 innings with one hit and one strikeout to pick up his third save of the season.
Trent Liolios led the offense with three hits and three RBIs. James Agabedis totaled two hits, a run scored, two RBIs and a walk. Tye Wood picked up a hit, two runs scored, and three stolen bases. Jason Wachs hit a home run, walked twice, and stole a base. Jack Johsnon had a bunt single and scored a run. Hugh Pinkney picked up two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Kaikea Harrison scored a run and had an RBI. Tanner Chun scored a run and stole a base
The loss went to FAU's Garrett Grant (1-4). Grant allowed five runs in four innings.
Tulane took the lead in the opening inning on a Wachs home run. It was his fifth blast of the season and his second homer in as many games.
The Green Wave added a pair of runs, 3-0, to the lead in the third inning as Liolios went the other way for two-out two-run double
Tulane added a pair of runs to the advantage to lead on the two-run blast from Agabedis. It was his fourth home run of the season.
FAU broke through for a run in the fifth inning on a Klye Boylston RBI single.
A Tulane error off the mis-catch off a relay throw allowed FAU to score the team's second run.
The Owls, thanks to a few Tulane errors in the eighth, scored a pair of runs to close the gap to 6-4.
Tulane picked up six insurance runs in the ninth inning. The Green Wave scored the first run of the frame without the benefit of a hit. Wood drew a walk, stole second and then third before racing home on a throwing error by the FAU catcher on the second stolen base of the sequence. The program added a Haas RBI double and a three-run triple from Pinkney. Harrison drove the team's sixth run of the frame and 12th tally of the game with an RBI ground out.
Next, Tulane travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. take on Southern Miss on Tuesday, April 21, starting at 6 p.m.
