CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Junior goalkeeper Megan Morey tallied eight saves and senior forward Lindsey Morris got off a pair of shots, but it was not enough as the Tulane University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Conference USA foe Charlotte Sunday afternoon at Transamerica Field.
Playing in their final home game of their careers, Charlotte seniors Megan Terlip and Kim Mile went out in style with goals in the first and second halves, respectively. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Green Wave as Tulane falls to 5-9-2 on the year and 3-4-1 in C-USA play. The 49ers, meanwhile, improve to 3-11-1 and 3-3-1 in league action.
Terlip put Charlotte on the board in the 25th minute when she blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from about 40 yards out. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the 49ers until midway through the second half when Mile redirected a cross from Jenna Brenes in the 57th minute to account for the final score.
The Green Wave fired seven shots on Sunday, but the combination of senior Lauren Dansby and sophomore Shannon Huffman turned Tulane away each time. Dansby started the game, and recorded one save in 10:23 of action, and Huffman came on with just under 11 minutes ticked off the clock in the first half and tallied five saves of her own to complete the shutout.
Tulane returns to action on Friday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Alabama to take on Mobile at 5 p.m. Following that contest, the Green Wave will head to Milwaukee, Wis., for a Sunday matchup with league foe Marquette before closing out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30, against C-USA rival Southern Miss at 1 p.m. at the Westfeldt Facility.
