NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane football team's quest for its fourth straight win and an upset over seventh-ranked Louisville this Saturday in the Superdome highlights the first "Wear Your Green" Weekend as all Tulane supporters are being asked to wear green at three great Green Wave games this weekend. Tickets to all three games are available through the Green Wave Athletics Ticket Office in the James Wilson Center, or by calling 504-861-WAVE, as well as at the door.
The action begins Friday night in Fogelman Arena as the Tulane men's basketball team takes on neighborhood foe Loyola beginning at 7 p.m. The game also will serve as a pep rally for the Green Wave football team in advance of the Louisville game as fans will have a chance to congratulate the Tulane players and coaches on their three-game winning streak. In addition, during Friday night's game one lucky student will win a $250 gift certificate to the Tulane Bookstore, while faculty and staff can purchase a ticket to the basketball game for just $5.
The $5 ticket offer is available to all fans for Saturday's football contest as the Green Wave plays host to the 2004 Conference USA champions in the biggest game of the season. Tulane has won three straight and four of its last five games, including upsets over UAB, Navy and TCU, while Louisville is 9-1 on the season and heading to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. A victory would give the Green Wave its first win over a ranked opponent since 1982 and would make Tulane bowl eligible for the second time in the last three seasons.
Prior to the game, students, faculty and staff are invited to the shuttle bus loading area in front of the Reily Center on campus for free coffee and doughnuts from 11 a.m.-Noon. At 11:30 a.m., the first buses leave for the Superdome, where the Tailgate Area will be hopping with pregame music, the Tulane cheerleaders, and games for the kids. Once inside the 'Dome, Tulane will honor 12 football seniors during pregame ceremonies.
The Louisville game will also mark the debut of the Tulane Marching Band under the direction of new band director Barry Spanier. The Band will be seated in front of the student section to play for the first time at a Green Wave game.
Finally, cap off the weekend back at Fogelman Arena on Sunday as the Green Wave women's basketball team will meet SEC power Auburn in one of its biggest home non-conference games of the season. The game tips off at 2 p.m. at Fogelman, and anyone with a ticket stub from Saturday's football game will be admitted free.
"We want to see every Tulane fan in New Orleans in the stands and wearing green this weekend," said Athletic Director Rick Dickson. "This football team has provided all of us with a lot of thrills this year. They've got the biggest game of the season on Saturday, and they have certainly shown that they deserve our support. With the two basketball games sandwiching the football game this weekend, Wear Your Green seemed like a great theme for all three events."
