Women's Tennis Rolls Past Ole Miss, 6-1

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Sophomore Jenny Kuhn won the No. 2 singles matchup with Karem Harboe, 7-5, 6-0, and combined with Maria Ivanov to win, 9-8, in No. 2 doubles action, as the Tulane University women's tennis team defeated Ole Miss, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
The Green Wave won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches as the Green Wave remained perfect in 2004 with a 6-0 record. Ole Miss, meanwhile, falls to 5-3 on the season as Tulane snaps Lady Rebels three-match winning streak.
Tulane got off to a good start by taking the doubles point two matches to one as Nancy Kockott teamed with Dorottya Magas to defeat Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis, 9-1, in No. 1 doubles action. The duo of Darya Ivanov and Ana Saaibi, meanwhile, dropped an 8-5 decision to Florencia Basile and Karem Harboe in No. 3 play.
In singles action, Darya Ivanov defeated Sabrina Pepple, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 3 slot, and Magas downed Tomatis, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 4 play. Kockott swept Basile, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 5 singles, and Saibi completed the victory with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 victory over Emily Ladyman in No. 6 play.
The Green Wave return to action on Sunday, Feb. 22, when they play host to Mississippi State beginning at 11 a.m. at the Goldring Tennis Center. The contest is the last of a seven-match homestand Tulane enjoyed to open the season as the Green Wave will hit the road for three straight away matches beginning on Feb. 27 when they open play in the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.
