
Women's Tennis Completes Magnolia State Sweep

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep of team's from the Magnolia State on Sunday, shutting down Mississippi State, 7-0, in action at the Goldring Tennis Stadium. The Green Wave, which improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season, stopped No. 31 Ole Miss on Saturday.
The 27th-ranked Green Wave squad opened Sunday's match with wins at all three doubles positions to take a 1-0 lead. The Wave proceeded to make quick work of the Bulldogs in singles, cruising to straight-set wins at all six singles slots.
"We played with great intensity, top-to-bottom," Tulane coach David Schumacher said. "Maria [Ivanov} played her best match of the year."
Ivanov posted an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles over Marcelle Hirt. Ivanov's younger sister, Darya, also had a solid win, dominating Magdi Rekasi, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Jenny Kuhn won at No. 2 singles, while Dorottya Magas, Nancy Kockott and Ana Saaibi also picked up singles triumphs.
The Green Wave returns to action next weekend with action at the UNLV Tournament, which begins on Friday.
