Kinya Lennix has been a sparkplug off the bench for Lisa Stockton's Tulane Green Wave so far in 2003-04. The 5-8 guard from LaPlace, La., brings not only quickness and a good shooting touch to the team, but also an infectious laugh, bubbly personality and quick smile. Lennix is averaging nearly five points per game off the bench with a season-high 14 points in the game versus UL-Monroe.
Major: Communications
Favorite Book: I read all romance novels... My favorite author is Terry McMillan. She wrote "Waiting to Exhale", which is probably my favorite book.
Favorite On-Campus Activities: Well, aside from sleeping, I'd have to say eating at Bruff. That's where the team gets together. We do more talking than we do eating.
If I could play another sport at Tulane (regardless of ability), it would be: Swimming. Because I want to wear the bikinis that they wear on the swim team. Well, even if they don't wear bikinis, I'd wear one. I want to get my hair wet and come out of the pool glistening. Plus, they don't lift that many weights.
Plans after Graduation: Right now, my plan is just to graduate, hopefully.
I Chose Tulane Because: It is known as the Harvard of the South and I really wanted to get a degree from here. Plus, it is close to home and I am a Mama's girl.
Personal Philosophy: My dad always told me, when I was younger, "Life isn't what you think it is, it's what you make it."
People who influenced athletic career: My dad, because he is always there pushing me, telling me I can be better. He is always trying to get me to be better. My uncle would come outside and play basketball with me and run with me. He still does sometimes.
Best Advice I ever received: My grandmother always tells me to keep God first in everything you do. That's the main thing I take with me.
A Class I would recommend: Music with Ms. Guild. She teaches, but she is so funny. She is a great teacher. Delacey and I have that class together. Plus, I have an A, which is always nice.
Actor you would most like to see in a movie: Vin Diesel. He is one of the sexiest men on the planet. The movie would have to be called Shirtless and I'd need him to be shirtless in the whole movie.
Favorite Food: Macaroni and cheese. It is the first thing I learned how to cook.
Favorite kind of cookie: There's this cookie in the mall - two chocolate chip cookies around some cream. It is called the Double Doozey. It takes two days to eat it. Don't tell Coach Stockton, though.
Dream Vacation Destination: I want to go to Paris, France. I had French for about 12 years. I can only say 'bon jour', but I can say it well.
If you could have dinner with any 3 people from history, who would they be: Kobe Bryant, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Rosa Parks. Rosa, because I want to know the real reason why she wouldn't get out of that seat. With Dr. King, I don't think I could talk, I'd just be in awe. And Kobe, because I am infatuated with Kobe.
Favorite teacher: Mrs. Bardell. She was my kindergarten teacher. That was the last grade I liked. She would give tootsie rolls to the person who slept the longest. I would try to sleep so long that my eyes were fluttering, but I would always win the tootsie roll.
Who is the all-time best player at your position? I want to say Kobe because I love him, but I have to say Michael Jordan. Kobe's right behind him though.
What is the best part about living in the dorms? Close to the gym... That's it. You don't have to get up and drive in the morning.
What has been your favorite moment with a fan? Earlier this year, I was checking back into a game and one of the Greenbackers yelled at me, "keep it up Lennix, keep hitting those shots." That was pretty cool, because they can be pretty tough on you when you aren't doing so well.
Three words to describe Mardi Gras: Out of Control! 24-7! Mardi Gras is nice. We have a little Mardi Gras in LaPlace, but it is nothing like this.
All-time favorite tv show: "The Simpsons." Absolute favorite.
Favorite movie: "Poetic Justice." Tu-Pac and Janet Jackson. It has no theme and no plot, but it is great.
Favorite sports movie: "Hoosiers." Just because we had to watch it before every playoff game in high school. Every playoff game for four years.
If you could go to any concert ever, who/what would you see? Michael Jackson. I am a big Michael Jackson fan. I just want to see if I'd cry.
What do you do before a game to get you focused and pumped up? I don't really have a ritual. I don't really believe in all that "tie your shoes the same way, or put the left one on first" or anything.
If you could beat one school in basketball, who would it be? It would have to be Louisiana Tech because they embarrassed us this year and I have never lost a game like that. I want to play them in Fogelman and beat them by 80.
Most Memorable Experience with Tulane Athletics: Going to Puerto Rico. The team was so close and we had so much fun. And we won the whole tournament.
How has being a Tulane student-athlete helped or changed you: Working out does wonders for the body and you get to see places you normally wouldn't get to see.
Are there any people you would like to thank? My dad because he has always been there for me. Even when I get kicked out of a Biddy Ball game for dunking. My high school coach who helped a lot during recruiting - I think I made a pretty good choice. My AAU coach taught me the fundamentals. Coach Stockton, too, who has given me a chance to play basketball in college.
If you could play another position, other than your own, what would you play and why? I am playing center, because I think I am a post in a guard's body. I have all these moves I haven't unleashed yet. I am just waiting for the right time.
