NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane women's tennis player Jenny Kuhn has been selected as the Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Kuhn, a sophomore from Leipzig, Germany, was selected as the award winner after an undefeated week that saw her win three singles matches and a pair of doubles matches. She started the week with a 6-3, 6-2 win over UNO's Laetitia Zembski at No. 1 singles last Monday. Kuhn followed that with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rice's Lauren Archer at No. 2 singles and a 6-1, 6-0 win over Arkansas' Anna Dybicz at No. 1 singles last weekend.
In doubles, she teamed with Maria Ivanov to post a pair of victories at the No. 2 spot, winning 8-6 over the UNO tandem of Micheala Fogelberg and Laetitia Zembski before claiming an 8-5 victory over the Rice duo of Karen Choa and Tracie Chang on Saturday.
Last season's Conference USA Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, Kuhn is currently ranked 107th in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while teaming with fellow sophomore Julie Smekodub for a No. 34 ranking in doubles.
Tulane has now won seven of a possible 13 Conference USA Player of the Week awards this season including each of the last six. Kuhn also won the award on Feb. 3 and March 16.
Kuhn and the Green Wave return to action on Friday at the Conference USA Tournament in Louisville, Ky. Tulane (21-1), thanks to a bye as the tournament's top seed, will face either No. 7 seed Charlotte or No. 10 East Carolina in the second round. The Green Wave are the tournament's defending champion as well as having won the event in 2001.
