BATON ROUGE, La. - - For the second straight year, Tulane and LSU were pushed to overtime in women's soccer action. But unlike last year's 1-1 draw, Friday's game produced a winner, as LSU claimed a 2-1 overtime victory at the LSU Soccer Complex. Tulane suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 1-1-1. LSU improves to 3-0. In a reverse of last year's game, which saw Tulane score early and LSU equalize late, it was the Tigers who got on the board early. Just 10 minutes into the contest, Kate Ripple put a rebound of a Stacy Bishop shot past Tulane goalkeeper Megan Morey to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Tulane answered, however, thanks to a Lindsay Morris goal at the 59:18 mark. Morris also scored against LSU in last season's 1-1 draw. For the second straight season, though, neither team could find the net in regulation, pushing the contest to an extra frame. LSU claimed the game-winner in the 94th minute, when Artie Brown slotted home a shot to give the Tigers the sudden-death victory. LSU had a slight 13-10 edge in shots, while Tulane was whistled for five offsides infractions. Tulane netminder Megan Morey made nine saves on the evening. Tulane returns to action on Sunday, as the Green Wave play host to UL Lafayette at the Westfeldt Facility. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the Tulane campus.
