COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Tulane University volleyball standout Kelli Dickson was named third-team ESPN The Magazine/Academic All-District VI Volleyball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Dickson, a senior libero from New Orleans, La., earned the honor after posting a career 3.43 grade point average in finance and accounting and leading the Green Wave defense with a 5.69 dig-per-game average. The academic honor is the first of Dickson's career.
"This is a tremendous honor for Kelli, and one that she is very worthy of," first-year Tulane head coach Liz Kritza said. "She is an extremely hard worker both on and off the court, and it is great to see her recognized for her efforts. She is a bright young woman with an incredibly bright future."
With two regular-season matches to go in 2005, Dickson leads the team with 307 digs while her digs per game average ranks second in Conference USA and 14th in the NCAA. She has tallied double-digit dig totals in 14 of the 16 matches the Green Wave have played this year, including nine 20-plus dig performances.
Along the way, Dickson tied a Tulane single-match record with 32 digs in a four-game match vs. Arizona State on Sept. 18. In addition, she became the first player in Green Wave history to post at least 2,000 assists and 1,00 digs in her career, and currently ranks fourth in the Tulane career record books with 2,274 assists and 1,224 digs.
Off the court, Dickson is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tulane's 3,0 Club and the Dean's List.
Dickson and the Green Wave return to action on Friday, Nov. 11, when Tulane plays host to Conference USA foe Tulsa at 7 p.m. at the G. Rollie White Coliseum. Admission is free, but a donation box will be at the main ticket window for anyone wishing to make a monetary contribution to the Tulane Athletic Department. Fans not able to make the trip to College Station can follow the action live on the internet via GameTracker on the official website of Tulane Athletics, www.tulanegreenwave.com.
