COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Three Green Wave players posted double-digit kill totals and senior libero had a match-high 14 digs, but it was not enough as the Tulane University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Conference USA foe SMU Sunday afternoon in the regular-season finale at the G. Rollie White Coliseum on the campus of Texas A&M University.
With the 30-28, 30-27, 30-26 loss, the Green Wave close out the regular-season 3-15 overall and 2-13 in C-USA play. SMU, meanwhile, improves to 12-15 on the year and 8-7 in league action. Both teams will move on to participate in the C-USA Tournament, which is slated to begin on Thursday at Rice's Autry Court.
"We wish we could have sent our seniors off with a win, and gain some momentum heading into the conference tournament," first-year Tulane head coach Liz Kritza said. "But we did see some positives to build on for the future, and we are turning our attention to the conference tournament.
"For the second time this year, all the teams in Conference USA are 0-0. It is up to us to use the things we have learned throughout the regular season in the postseason to make a run at the NCAAs. This season has been historic already, when you factor in what happened to the city, the university and this team due to the hurricane, so we're looking forward to writing a happy ending to this story."
Freshman outside hitter Sara Radosevic led all players with 18 kills while freshman middle blocker Lauren Boatwright had a career-high 11 and senior Blair Moon followed with 10. Dickson was the only Tulane player to post 10-plus digs, while Radosevic fell one dig shy of a double-double with nine.
Natalie Peters led SMU with 11 kills while Ashley Zener had 10. Jennette Evanco paced the Mustangs with 10 digs and Stefanie Kons was next with seven.
