NEW ORLEANS -- The Tulane Athletics Fund, the fundraising arm of the Green Wave athletic department, is embarking on a post-Katrina Rebuilding Drive, Athletic Director Rick Dickson announced Tuesday. TAF will be a part of Tulane University's Rebuilding Fund, however, all gifts will directly benefit the athletics department and its programs, and donors will be entitled to most prior benefits associated with their membership.
"After the board decision which suspended eight of our teams, the success and growth of TAF becomes an even more vital piece of the future of Tulane Athletics," said Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson. "Over the next few months, we will look to the future and begin constructing a plan for the reinstatement of the suspended programs. In order for that process to go forward, it is vital that we continue to build the base of our TAF annual fund in terms of dollars raised and number of donors."
Individuals interested in making a gift prior to the end of 2005 will be able to take advantage of a special window of opportunity. The Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005 allows charitable contributions of cash from individuals to be fully deducted this year, without regard to regular percentage limitations or limits affecting itemized deductions. For more information or to make a contribution, please visit the following link: http://www.tulane.edu/PDFS/giving_window.pdf.
"We urge our donors to join us in rebuilding Tulane University and Tulane Athletics and to consider taking advantage of the `window of opportunity' that exists for gifts made before Dec. 31," Dickson said.
Gifts can be made before the end of the year by phone, by mail or on-line (see details below). To insure that gifts are credited for 2005, credit card gifts should be made online before midnight CST on December 31 or called in to the phone number below prior to December 30.
To make a gift by credit card, call (504) 865-5794.
On-line, go to www.tulane.edu/rebuilding fund and click "on line form". If you wish to designate the gift to TAF, indicate this in the "special instructions" area of the form.
Gifts may be mailed to Tulane University, Department 572, P.O. Box 4869, Houston, TX 77210-4869. Tulane has retained this service in Houston until the New Orleans lock box operations are up and running. All correspondence received in Houston will be copied to the university development office in New Orleans as it is received.
