NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane junior utility athlete Brian Bogusevic has been named the CSTV: College Sports Television Student-Athlete of the Week, personifying excellence both on and off the playing field, the cable-based network announced Tuesday.
Bogusevic, a consensus preseason All-American and early choice for Conference USA Player of the Year, earned the honor for his performance during the season-opening weekend vs. Southeast Missouri State. The CSTV honor is the fourth earned by Bogusevic for his performance against the Redhawks as he was also named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week by the league office, Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and Pro-Line Cap Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Bogusevic earned the first opening-day start of his career and responded in a big was with a career-high 13 strikeouts and no walks in an 8.0-inning performance as the top-ranked Green Wave claimed a 9-0 victory. He limited the Redhawks to two hits while facing just three more than the minimum during his time on the hill.
After giving up a leadoff double in the second inning, Bogusevic retired the next 19 batters he faced, including 11 by strikeout. Bogusevic was held out of the offensive starting lineup for the weekend as a precautionary measure due to a slightly pulled left hamstring, but the big lefty did come through in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with a clutch three-run, pinch-hit double to snap a 3-all tie in the bottom of the eighth to account for a 6-3 final score.
Bogusevic is now in contention to win the CSTV Student-Athlete of the Month award, which is selected through votes cast by visitors to the CSTV.com web site.

The Green Wave and the Waves will also play on Saturday and Sunday, with first pitch of both ballgames scheduled for 3 p.m.
