Baseball Loses 9-5 Road Game to Lamar

BEAUMONT, TX – The Tulane baseball team (17-17) lost a back-and-forth 9-5 road game to Lamar (18-15) at Vincent-Beck Stadium on Tuesday, April 7. The loss snapped Tulane's four-game midweek winning streak.
Jude Abbadessa (2-2) gave up a pair of hits, a run, a walk, and a strikeout in his 0.1 of an inning in taking the relief loss. LuisPablo Navarro started for the Green Wave and allowed three runs (two earned) with two walks and two strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Jack Brafa was the first man in out of the bullpen. He allowed a run on three hits in 1.1 innings worked. Tom Vincent surrendered a run without allowing a hit in 2.0 innings. Beau Sampson allowed two runs in his 0.1 of an inning with three walks and a strikeout. Sam Larson threw 0.2 of an inning with a strikeout. Jacob Moore allowed a run without giving up a hit with two strikeouts in throwing the eighth inning.
Ethan Oceguera (3-1) earned the win with 2.1 scoreless inning of relief.
Jason Wachs led the offensive attack with two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Nate Johnson crossed the plate twice with a hit and a walk. Hugh Pinkney totaled an RBI. Tye Wood picked up a run and a hit plus a walk. Matthias Haas had a hit. James Agabedis totaled an RBI. Tanner Chun was hit by a pitch and walked plus scored a run. Kaikea Harrison doubled for his hit.
Lamar scored first with an unearned run in the opening frame as a Tulane fielding error allowed the Cardinals' Beau Durbin to score.
The Green Wave tied the game at one on a squeeze bunt from Agabedis to score a charging Wood from third in the second inning.
Tulane grabbed the lead in the third with the two runs, 3-1. The first run came in on the throwing error from the Lamar catcher off the Liolios sacrifice bunt. The second run scored on a sacrifice fly by Pinkney.
Lamar took the lead back in the bottom of the frame, 4-3, on Hector Rodriguez's single to the gap. a Jake Wagnor RBI base hit and a sacrifice fly from Brayden Evans.
The back-and-forth continued in the fourth as Tulane took the lead back, 5-4, on a Wachs' bloop double.
The Cardinals took the lead with two runs in the sixth inning on A.J. Taylor's RBI single followed later in the frame by a wild pitch to score Taylor from third.
Lamar added two insurance tallies, 8-5, to the advantage in the seventh on a Durbin ground out and a wild pitch.
The Cardinals tacked on another run via the wild pitch in the eighth, 9-5, in what would be the final score. It was the third straight inning that the team scored a run on a wild pitch.
Next, Tulane returns home to host East Carolina (22-12-2, 6-3 American) from April 10-13 on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Game times are 6:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
