NEW ORLEANS, La. - On the heels of last weekend's UNLV Lady Rebel Classic championship, the No. 14 Tulane women's tennis team faces a tough test on Sunday afternoon at noon when the Green Wave hosts No. 20 William and Mary at Goldring Tennis Center.
Currently in the midst of a six-match winning streak, the Wave improved to 8-4 on the season after picking up three wins en route to capturing the title at the UNLV Lady Rebel Classic, defeating Cal State Northridge, No. 30 New Mexico and No. 48 UNLV.
In this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, Tulane moved up to No. 14 while three members of the squad cracked the Top 100. Senior Nancy Kockott claimed the No. 49 spot while two-time Conference USA Player of the Year Jenny Kuehn jumped from No. 81 in the first spring ranking to No. 55. New York native Julie Smekodub is currently ranked No. 71.
Sunday's opponent, No. 20 William and Mary, comes to town with a 7-1 mark on the season fresh off of a 4-3 upset over No. 5 Duke on Wednesday. The Tribe's lone loss came in a 5-2 match against Northwestern, a team that also defeated Tulane, 5-2. Megan Muth and Megan Moulton-Levy are ranked No. 39 and No 48, respectively, in singles play. Moulton-Levy and Candice Fuchs pair to form the No. 25 doubles team in the nation while Muth and partner Amy Wei are ranked 36th.
Sunday's match starts at noon and is free to the public. Free hot dogs will be provided to fans.
Next weekend, Tulane hosts South Alabama on Friday, March 11, and Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, March 13, at Goldring Tennis Center.
