NEW ORLEANS, La. - While this weekend's matchup between the top-ranked Tulane University baseball team and defending national champion Cal State Fullerton will no doubt be fun to watch, the series will also feature several off-the-field activities to help enhance the Green Wave baseball experience.
This weekend marks the debut of the Riptide Kids Area on the football practice field, and on Sunday, there will be the traditional Elmers Candy Easter Egg Hunt following the series finale. In addition, Elmers will sponsor a "Hit The Heavenly Hash" contest on Saturday at Zephyr Field, where a banner will be hung in the outfield, and if a batter hits the sign, one lucky fan will win $10,000.
"We are very excited about the opportunity that our weekend series provides for us to continue to improve the fan experience at both Turchin Stadium and at Zephyr Field," Director of Marketing Steve Walsh said.
Friday and Sunday's games will be played at Turchin Stadium at 6:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, while Saturday's ballgame is slated for 2 p.m. at Zephyr Field. While over 9,000 fans are anticipated to attend Saturday's contest, the on-campus games are also expected draw standing-room-only audiences.
On Saturday, the Tulane Football team and head coach Chris Scelfo will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs, as well as distribute 2005 football schedules and ticket information. Information tables on purchasing Tulane football season tickets, as well as becoming a member of the Tulane Athletics Fund, will be set up inside the Zephyr Field concourse. Scelfo will throw out the ceremonial first pitch along with Dr. Raoul Rodriguez, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Tulane University School of Medicine, one of the Wave's game sponsors.
In anticipation of the large crowds at Turchin Stadium this weekend as well as the rest of the 2005 season, the Tulane Athletic Department is encouraging all fans to arrive at the stadium early and, for all Turchin Stadium games, to utilize the parking garage located in the Diboll Complex on Ben Weiner Drive.
