No. 15 Tulane Blanks LSU in Goldring-Jacobs Tennis Challenge

NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the first time in school history, the Tulane women's tennis team defeated LSU at home with a 7-0 shutout in Wednesday evening's Goldring-Jacobs Tennis Challenge at Goldring Tennis Center.
Entering the match, Tulane had beaten the Lady Tigers on three occasions, all in Baton Rouge, including last season's 5-2 Tulane victory.
The No. 15 Green Wave took a 1-0 advantage into singles play after sweeping the doubles contests. On court one, the 46th-ranked Ivanov sister duo beat LSU's Lauren Seaman and Tiffany Tucker, 8-4, while Jenny Kuehn and Julie Smekodub used the same score at No. 2 doubles to defeat Amanda Mang and Staten Spencer. At No. 3, Tulane's tandem of Dorottya Magas and Nancy Kockott edged Maria Chiarelli and Camila Caliari, 7-6.
Each Green Wave player won in straight sets during singles play as Tulane won its 10th consecutive match to improve to 18-5 on the season while LSU fell to 11-10.
Kockott earned the second point for Tulane with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 while Magas notched her 15th straight win after cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 triumph on court six over Camila Caliari.
Kuehn, ranked 47th nationally, provided the fourth point to ensure the Green Wave victory with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2. Reigning Conference USA Player of the Week, Darya Ivanov, extended her winning streak to a dozen after a 6-4, 6-2 match at the four spot. Tulane's top player, Maria Ivanov, ousted Amanda Mang, 6-1, 6-4 while Smekodub used a 6-3, 6-4 score on court three for the final points.
"Everyone really got the job done today against a good LSU team," Tulane head coach David Schumacher said. "I think the score reflects just how focused everyone was. Maria Ivanov was extremely focused and played a great match for us. When she stays that focused, she can beat anyone."
The Wave wraps up the regular season this weekend, hosting UNO on Saturday and Texas-Arlington on Sunday's Senior Day. Both matches start at noon at Goldring Tennis Center and are free to the public.
