Tulane Travels to Houston for C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

HOUSTON, Texas - The Tulane University men's and women's track and field teams will be in action this weekend at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships at the University of Houston. The event begins on Thursday and will finish on Saturday with the presentation of awards scheduled for 3:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Senior Camilla Hatlen is the first Green Wave athlete who will be in action as the events of the women's pentathlon kick off at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Freshmen Doug Dickson and Mike Menley will get the men's team started, competing in the decathlon on Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Tulane's top rated performers on the men's side will both also be in action on Thursday as javelin throws Eric Hambidge and David Skehan have their event beginning at 4 p.m. Hambidge is ranked fourth in the league entering the championship while Skehan is fifth.
The top-rated women's competitors for the Green Wave are senior Helmi Leppanen and sophomore Gloria Asumnu. Leppanen is ranked second in the shot put (Saturday, 2 p.m.) and fifth in the javelin (Thursday, 5:30 p.m.), while Asumnu is ranked second in the 200-meter dash (Friday, 6:40 p.m.) and fourth in the 100 (Friday, 5:40 p.m.). Asumnu will also anchor the Wave's 4x100 Relay team is ranked fifth in the league and will compete at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Lissie Mo and Marilyn Sauls are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump (Friday, 3 p.m.) while Christina Tegbe is the eighth-ranked triple jumper in the championship. Tegbe's event is on Saturday at 12 p.m.
The 2005 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will have live results on the Internet that is provided on the worldwide web by www.flashresults.com/flashtexas. The results also will be available on the Official University of Houston website, www.uhcougars.com, at the end of each day.
