Tulane Athletics Fund Phone-a-Thon Scheduled for Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane coaches and staff, including baseball coach Rick Jones, new men's basketball coach Dave Dickerson and athletic director Rick Dickson, along with several Green Wave current and former student-athletes, will be among those taking part in the Tulane Athletics Fund year-ending Phone-A-Thon this Wednesday, June 29 from 5-9 p.m. in the atrium of the James Wilson Center.
The callers, who will also include Tulane fans and volunteers, will be contacting past donors, those who have not yet renewed for 2005, and new donors, in an effort to boost participation in the Tulane Athletics Fund (TAF), the principal fundraising arm for Green Wave Athletics. TAF provides critical support to Tulane's more than 320 student-athletes in all sports.
"Increasing participation in the Tulane Athletics Fund is a critical element of our future success," said Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson. "We have increased our annual fund level in each of the last four years and it's important that we continue that upward trend. "
A year ago, the Tulane Athletics Fund raised a record $2.065 million from 1,969 donors, also a record high. For 2005, the goals are $2.5 million and 2,300 donors.
Tulane is coming off one of the most successful spring seasons in school history as Green Wave teams claimed five Conference USA Championships and had seven programs advance to NCAA Regional competition. In addition to baseball's top six national finish, the women's golf and women's tennis teams recorded Top 16 showings nationally this spring.
"Our student-athletes finished strong on the field and in the classroom this past year," Dickson said. "Now we need a strong finish to this fundraising drive to really cap off a successful year."
