COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Just one month ago, the ties between the Tulane University women's soccer team and its counterparts from the University of Oregon were very few, yet the Ducks spearheaded a fundraising drive over the weekend that netted $1,200 to assist the Green Wave program in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
"We are very appreciative of the support the Oregon team has shown us," Tulane head coach Betsy Anderson said. "Now that we have our program into a routine, engaging in practices and competitions, Oregon's support will help enable us to maintain our program."
Members of the Oregon soccer parent's club, "The Quacks," distributed green awareness ribbons in exchange for a donation during last Friday's soccer game against South Dakota State. Approximately $700 was raised on Friday while an additional $500 was collected at Saturday's during a tailgate prior the Oregon versus USC.
"I give our parents all the credit for wanting to do this and making it happen," said Oregon head coach Tara Erickson. "It's pretty neat to provide some relief and support in whatever way we can."
Currently enrolled in classes and stationed at Texas A&M University, the Tulane squad takes the field for the first time since Sept. 4 on Friday night in the Conference USA opener at Memphis.
