Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Kennesaw State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Rookie goalkeeper Kat Alario collected five saves in her collegiate debut, but it was not enough as Kennesaw State defeated the Tulane women's soccer team, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the UAB Nike Classic.
"We had some good possessions in the second half with a few good opportunities that we did not capitalize on," Green Wave coach Betsy Anderson said. "On Friday we played with a lot of emotion, and looked a bit fatigued emotionally and physically today. They are a very good team, and overall, I was pleased again with the way we came out and played."
Despite aggressive play from the Green Wave, Kennesaw's Pip Meo gave the Owls a 1-0 lead four minutes into the first half. The Owls, winners of the Division II national championship in 2003, scored an insurance goal at the 28 minute mark, taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Tulane came out firing in the second half, taking nine shots over the final 45 minutes of play. But the Kennesaw defense preserved the two-goal lead, although the Wave held a 14-12 shot advantage for the game.
Junior midfielder Kali Miller, who assisted on the goal in the Wave's 2-1 loss to Louisville, and junior forward Jill Sharp, who tallied eight shots against Kennesaw State, were named to the 2005 UAB Nike Classic All-Tournament Team. Kennesaw State's Meo was tabbed the tourney MVP.
Plans for the remainder of the 2005 Tulane season are being finalized.
