Dear Tulane Student-Athlete,
Welcome Back! The staff and I are excited to welcome each of you back to campus for the spring 2006 semester. Although New Orleans, Tulane University and Tulane Athletics will never be the same in this Post-Katrina era, we are working to make the transition back to our campus as simple as possible for you.
As you know, the Wilson Center sustained extensive damage to the first floor when the levees broke, destroying most of our Student Services units. These areas are still under construction, and although progress is being made every day, we cannot fully access all areas of the building yet. Please make note of the following temporary accommodations:
--- The Training Room, Equipment Room and Tulane Athletics Ticket Office are now all located in Fogelman Arena.
--- Academic Services is located in Suite 240 on the second floor of Goldring Woldenberg I in the A.B. Freeman School of Business.
--- Strength & Conditioning will make use of the Reily Center
--- The following areas are OFF-LIMITS until further notice: Wilson Center first floor, Turchin Stadium and the Sofio Hack Shack, Goldring Tennis Courts.
--- The Westfeldt Facility and Track are cleared for use by student-athletes.
--- Parking is available in the Diboll Garage. Due to ongoing construction, parking is currently NOT available along Ben Weiner Drive, in the Tennis Court or Monk Simons parking lots.
If you need to reach anyone in the Wilson Center, we first suggest you call and make an appointment with that person to ensure that your trip is not wasted. Some of our staff¡¦s offices have moved or they are in temporary offices. If you do come to the Wilson Center, please enter through the grey door at the front of the building and take the stairs to the second or third floor.
Throughout the next six weeks, different areas of the building will be completed, refurbished and open for use. You will be notified as those areas become accessible.
Many students have asked about their stipends for off-campus housing. Stipends will be issued this semester. When you arrive back in New Orleans, please make sure that your off-campus housing is available and ready for occupancy. If you need to make alternate housing arrangements on-campus, please contact Maria Ochoa at 504-862-8241.
Bruff Dining Hall will open for the semester on Monday, Jan.16. The Pavilion (the ¡§bubble¡¨) will be open Saturday and Sunday. You will find many local restaurants remain closed or have limited hours and limited menus, plan accordingly. Also, be sure to have your Tulane ID and if you do not have one, card services are located in Bruff as well.
We will hold a mandatory All Student-Athlete Meeting on Monday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Fogelman Arena for student-athletes in both continuing and suspended sports. You will receive more detailed information on all of these issues at that time.
Just a reminder that if you have a crisis or emergency situation, call the Tulane Athletics hotline at 1-888-836-9168.
I encourage you to attend events such as the free concert by Wynton Marsalis on Monday evening at 7 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, as well as the Green Wave basketball games in Fogelman Arena (beginning Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.) and baseball games at Zephyr Field. Admission is free and all you need is a valid Tulane student ID.
Again, it is great to be able to welcome you back. I look forward to seeing you on Mon., Jan. 23. Please feel free to contact any member of the staff or your coach regarding any questions you may have.
Roll Wave!
Rick Dickson
Athletic Director
